Huper Optik ceramic tint and Boxer windshield
I had the 512i out for many miles last weekend and although the A/C did a better than expected job at blowing cold, nothing could be done about the IR and UV streaming in the windows. My head and lower body were comfortable while my abdomen roasted and my wrists got sunburned.
Since the car is not a 100pt Pebble Beach car, I am going to take the plunge and put very gentle tints on the windows. I am considering ceramic tint from Huper Optik. Does anyone have any stories about tints, particularly on the front window? Any issue with radio reception? |

In my state tinting the windshield is illegal. Check this out before.
Who listens to the radio????? |

You cannot tint the windshield in NY state. I would recommend a 3m Crystalline 90% window tint. The rear window is very difficult to tint correctly and requires removing the rear leather window trim. We offer this service if interested.

Windshield tint
I got the windshield in my TR tinted a while ago. I had something called Air Blue heat blocker put on. It supposedly blocks 43% of the heat and 99.9% of the UV rays. I live in Hawaii and noticed a huge difference after I put it on. It's rated at 80%, so federally it's still legal. It gives the faint hue of blue, but that's about it. I've been really happy with it, but I'm not sure about the legality in other states.

Correction, I tinted the windshield in my Lotus Elise. They had run out of the tint when I had the TR in to get the rest of the windows tinted. Not that it really matters, the tint is awesome either way.

Good to hear. Anything has to be better than the surface-of-Mercury effect you get in a Boxer.

Every car i own is blacked out....the windshields are all tinted. Probably not legal but what a difference it makes in the Georgia heat. I stripped the light tint off my TR and will retint all the windows in 20% and put 35% on the windshield.

I got a quote from Solar Eclipse at Mall of Georgia (770-614-1750) for Huper Optik clear for the windshield and 30% for the side and rear windows on my BB512i - $520. They claimed such film will block IR and UV by 90%+

Newbie Q: I am guessing the tint goes on the INSIDE. What happens to all the stickers (reg, inspection, concours-relevant tire pressure)? Do I strip 'em and reapply to the tint? How do you scrape 'em off? |

Stickers
The tint shop removed and reapplied them for me.

Settled
Huper all around. Final VLT TBD but very light. Going for IR/UV reduction not cosmetics. StickerShield to deal with reg+insp stickers. Work will commence in a few weeks.

FYI had my house done with Huper Optik and it made a huge difference. Hope you get the same results with the Boxer.

I'd like to see how much difference it makes, since I've heard both that "It's wonderful, makes all the difference in the world" and "Didn't really do much, if anything". I'm cautiously over-optimistic , since it really is a greenhouse in there, especially in Texas.
