GT1 World Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps

Very eventful race, which ended with Lamborghini (1st), Ford (2nd) and Maserati (3rd) on the podium.

Lamborghini's first GT1 World Championship win!

Cheers,
Gabriel

Thats great to hear....
Just curious, but, has Lamborghini ever won any race? I don't think they have ever really competed too much? I could be wrong. I know they used to race F1 with their engines in Ligier\Lotus chassis but never really did much for results. Nor have they ever really competed much in ALMS?
Good news for Lambo... Was this a factory backed car?

Not the first race win in a major race: I remember the Murcielago winning a GT1 race some years ago, before the GT1 class became (again) a World Championship class. But, yeasterday's victory must surely be Lamborghini's most prestigous achievement ever on the race track.

The winning car was a Reiter Engineering Team car; not sure about the links with the factory...

Cheers,
Gabriel

Correction: the Maserati came second and the Ford third.

I saw that BMW is racing in the "gt national" class, does anyone know what the rules or specs of that class are?I can't find a description anywhere.

I presume you are referring to the 24 hour race at Spa-Francorchamp, right? I think GTN cars are lightly modified road cars, quite similar to GT4, but regulations may differ across countries and series...

There is, as far as I know, no international GTN series or championship, in contrast to the FIA GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 series. However, several European countries have their own national championships, with slightly varying rules.

Thanks. Specifically I was referring to the BMW M3 GT2 that raced the spa 24 hour race in the GT national class

A Reiter Murcielago RGT won the Zuhai FIA GT round in China some years ago in the hands of Cristophe Bouchut and Stefan Mucke.

Reiter has been supported by the factory (and Audi Sport) since his original Diablo entry in 2000.

From what I understand GTN is for modified cars that dont meet FIA standards. I felt bad for BMW..their M3 leads 23+ hours of the race and just after they interview the head of BMW Motorsport and everyones so happy, they cut away and 30 seconds later you see it hit the wall...A friend of mine, Phil Bastiaans was 4th in GT2 behind two other Porsches and the F430. He said he had never run a race and seen so many offs as he saw yesterday morning at dawn after the rain

I agree. Also felt bad for Zak Brown, Tony Dean, Mark Blundell and Eddie Cheever in the Brown-owned United Autosports team in their GT3 Audi R8's. One of the team cars was quite high up in the overall order, lost power steering (in Eau Rouge!?!?!?) and fell to 9th followed by the sister car in 10th OA.

I believe Lamborghini has won some races in Europe over the past couple of years with some of the Reiter Engineering Gallardos, some of the victories taking place in the ADAC Masters series if I remember correctly.
